As most of you know, I will be heading out this summer and fall to conduct my dissertation research project:
"Quantitative Assessment of Infraorbital Morphology in Homo: Testing for Character Independence and Evolutionary Significance."
Which, when translated from the Greek, means that I will be measuring the "cheek region" of the human skull to find out how well this part of the facial skeleton distinguishes different human species.
Since my research requires that I measure essentially every available human fossil skull, I will be traveling to the many museums and universities around the globe where these fossils are curated. Consequently, starting in June, for the next 9 months or so, I will be embarking on what paleoanthropologists call "The Grand Tour", traveling to: Russia, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain, France, Monaco, Italy, Greece, Austria, The Czech Republic, Croatia, New York City, Washington D.C., Israel, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, and China.I know a lot of friends and family want to be kept in the loop while I'm traveling, and since I probably won't have time to email or call everyone individually, I thought starting a blog to document this adventure was the way to go. So here it is... my "Wherever I May Roam" blog.
